Development and Design
Kenta Tokairin
Work Responsibilities
I am involved in the development of pumps for use in the overseas construction industry markets. Pumps are used in various building applications, including water supply to faucets and toilets, water lifting from wells, water drainage from toilets and kitchens, cooling or hot water circulation for air conditioning and heating, and water supply to fire sprinklers and hydrants. In particular, I have focused on the development of drainage pumps, and I have also been involved in the development of well pumps. Since many of our motor pumps are used under water, the designs must incorporate waterproofing. Furthermore, the required specifications for pumps vary depending on the application and regional characteristics, so we conduct development accordingly.
Regarding Daily Motivation and How to Acquire Skills
Product development involves design, prototyping, and evaluation processes. Although I face many challenges at each stage, solving them one by one and seeing my own designs and ideas utilized as products in society is a huge source of motivation. I also believe the environment, where employees are evaluated based on their results regardless of their years of service, is excellent. What I strive for daily is to turn our attention to the work of others and other departments. Not only my own work, but also the ingenuity and insights of those around you as a hint often leads to solving challenges. Since technical data and past development case studies are also accumulated within EBARA, I am aware of the need to read them to deepen my understanding.
Future Aspirations and My Message to Younger Generations
As an engineer, I want to not only shape given request but also engage from the proposal stage, aiming for more valuable monozukuri (manufacturing). We engineers ourselves need to consider what kind of products and services are truly needed and to incorporate those findings into the designs. For younger people, I want to say that as you get older and your life stage changes, non-work related responsibilities increase, which can make it more difficult to take on bold challenges. That's why you should try various things while you are young, without fear of failure. Sometimes it doesn't work, but that experience will become invaluable assets for your future. I support all of your proactive challenges, and I would be very happy if the day comes when we can work together with you.
