Production Technology

Shunsuke Takigawa

New Technology Development Section, Manufacturing Technology Development Department, Innovative Production Engineering and Quality Assurance Division

Work responsibilities

I am in charge of developing the technologies necessary for product manufacturing, such as bonding, surface modification, and resin molding. This department (EMTAC) is based on understanding the needs of each division and working together. One of these is the rapid production of development prototypes. We also solve manufacturing technology issues at factories. There aren't always answers to these questions right from the start. We often think about and work on these issues together with the business division, and this helps us improve our own skills.

Adjustments made when teaching skills to international trainees, and lessons learned

Accepting overseas trainees is a good opportunity to graduate from being a "frog in a well." It means working together to overcome differences in cultures, customs, languages, and ways of thinking. It will take a lot of time and effort to complete a single task. But I believe that such hardships will lead to growth. I myself have also become more conscious of how I give work instructions and communicate with trainees. Rather than the Japanese approach of saying 1 and understanding 10, I learned to check the other person's level of understanding by asking whether they can understand 5 out of 10 things.

Future goals & message to young people

It's now commonplace for a foreign employee to sit next to you. We live in an age where diversity is embraced across the barriers of nationality, race, and religion, and new values But I do not think that means you need to study English in particular. Going forward, there will be many useful translation systems available. More than anything, young people should not be afraid of failure, but rather take on new challenges and carve out their own path in life with new ideas.
