Approach to Quality Management

EBARA Global Quality

Based on the EBARA Way, we have formulated EBARA Global Quality (EGQ), the EBARA Group’s basic policy on quality management, and we are engaged in efforts to firmly establish reliability in our products and services.

EBARA Group Quality Basic Policy

In order to firmly establish reliability as EBARA’s basis for achieving our long-term vision, as set out in E-Vision 2030, we have stipulated the Ebara Group’s basic policy on quality, known as Ebara Global Quality, based on the Ebara Way.

EBARA Global Quality expresses the desire of the EBARA Group as a whole to continue contributing to society through our business. We refine our technologies with passion and provide reliable products and services with dedication.

EBARA Global Quality Declaration

To help create a sustainable society, elevate standards of living, and support abundant lifestyles for all, we will deliver safe, reassuring, and optimal solutions that exceed expectations. We will also build trust with our customers by providing quality products and services under the slogan "Technology. Passion. Support our Globe."

Our Initiatives

Senior management in each area of business will specify a quality policy, i.e., specific policies to achieve our stated goals based on Ebara Global Quality, and it will transform that policy into quality targets in documents such as the medium-term management plan.

Quality Control Policy
The technologies, products, and services provided by the EBARA Group to society must accurately reflect the quality expected by customers, be manufactured and designed in a rational, economical, and reliable manner, backed by our founding spirit and corporate philosophy, and embody the excellence of the EBARA brand.

Implementation Efforts

  • We will accurately grasp the needs and expectations of society and customers.
  • We will comply with the laws and regulations of each country and region.
  • We will evaluate and verify products at the planning, development, and design stages to ensure our products can be used safely.
  • We will mutually improve quality through partnerships with suppliers.
  • We will establish and maintain a consistent quality management system from planning and development to service, and strive for operation and continuous improvement through collaboration between all departments.
  • We will continue to develop human resources to maintain and improve quality.

Quality Management Governance

The EBARA Group’s Quality Assurance System

We have established a quality management system based on “EBARA Global Quality.” The President, Representative Executive Officer serves as the highest authority responsible for overseeing the system, with each company working in coordination with the Risk Management Panel (RMP) and the Corporate Quality Assurance Department to promote activities and regularly report to the Audit Committee and Executive Officers. In addition, each manufacturing base has obtained the necessary and valid ISO 9001 (Quality Management System) certification to achieve its quality policy and objectives, and we have maintained a 100% acquisition rate through the fiscal year ended December 2024.

Quality Management Strategy and Risk Management

Continuous Improvement "EGQ Activities"

To achieve "EBARA Global Quality," we have set quantitative and qualitative targets and are working to achieve both.

*1. EGM: Ebara Global Manufacturing
*2. COQ: Cost of Quality
*3. EGQ: Ebara Global Quality

Establishment and Operation of the EBARA Standard DR Guidelines

In 2024, the EBARA Group established an internal regulation, the "EBARA Standard DR Guidelines" to minimize quality non-conformities caused by design by thoroughly implementing preventive activities during design reviews (DR). The regulations clearly outline the roles and structure of DR, the flow as well as follow-up procedures and indicators for evaluations of effectiveness, positioning them as the fundamental framework for the DR regulations implemented by each segment and business.

Fostering Human Resources for Quality Management

Based on a tiered training program, we have begun providing quality-related education to all employees, from new hires to top management. We are fostering human resources who can use a common language regarding quality and who can act independently via organizational and scientific approaches, and we are providing opportunities to build a career in quality assurance.

Key points of the quality management education program

  • Employees can access a structured educational program for achieving EGQ at any time.
  • The EGQ human resource development program integrates off-the-job training (OFF-JT) and on-the-job training (OJT) support skill enhancement.
  • Skilled personnel foster strong relationships of trust with customers.

Regular Publication of the Quality Newsletter “EGQ Report”

The EGQ Report is published monthly and is intended to visually depict the status of EGQ efforts (targets and progress) in each business, to widely disseminate information on quality assurance efforts to the entire Group, and to link those efforts to an awareness of improvements and innovation.

Quality Management Metrics and Targets

Improve the Cost of Quality (COQ)

Cost of Quality (COQ) visualizes the amounts incurred through quality assurance activities and evaluates the effectiveness of these activities by linking their outcomes to business performance. It includes total quality-related costs, such as quality management costs (prevention and appraisal) and failure costs (internal and external), and assesses the cost-effectiveness of quality assurance efforts.

By measuring quality costs, we aim to reduce failure-related losses and minimize total quality costs, thereby contributing to improved profitability and product quality.

Improve EGQ Survey Scores

We conduct EGQ surveys every year according to seven evaluation items to monitor the progress of structural reforms. Each item evaluated is classified into one of five categories.

EGQ Survey: 7 Evaluation Categories
  1. Establishment of quality management policies and implementation of quality objectives
  2. Accurate understanding of societal and customer requirements and expectations
  3. Compliance with laws and regulatory requirements in each country and region
  4. Commitment to product safety
  5. Partnerships with suppliers
  6. Operation and continuous improvement of the quality management system
  7. Ongoing human resource development

Five-Level Rating of EGQ Score

Each evaluation category is assessed using a five-level rating scale. Each Group company has set medium-term targets for their organizations.

EGQ Score: Five-Level Assessment

Level 1 The implementation of basic measures is being attempted, but there remain many areas for improvement. It is recommended to immediately work toward achieving Level 2.
Level 2 Basic measures are being appropriately implemented under a management system equivalent to ISO 9001.
Level 3 In the status of managing ISO 9004 recommendations, the target processes have been established and efforts are being made to improve them.
Level 4 The targeted processes are in a good state of control. Ready to aim for level 5.
Level 5 Achievements have been made, the vision has been realized, the company is benchmarked by other companies, and is aiming even higher.

EGQ Survey Score Goals

Domestic (5 companies, 13 organizations) 2025 Achieve Level 3
2030 Achieve Level 5
Overseas (20 companies) 2026 Achieve Level 3
