Conducting joint research towards space demonstration with JAXA’s Space Exploration Innovation Hub Center
-Building on the initial successful testing, further tech maturity testing will be completed by March-

EBARA Corporation (hereinafter "EBARA"), on 26^th of December 2025, has signed a Joint Research Contract with Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency（hereinafter "JAXA"）for the development of a "High-Speed Rotation Canned-Motor Pump System". Furthermore, this research will be a follow up for space demonstration on the completed initial test for the "High-Speed Rotation Canned-Motor Pump System" that was chosen for the JAXA Space Exploration Research Topic in 2023.

EBARA started development on the Canned Motor Pump for use in large satellites and lunar landers through JAXA’s Space Exploration Hub Center as a research topic starting from April 2025 and has achieved a High Pressure/Low Flow Rate capable electric pump. With the current broadening market of private companies working in the space sector, there is a critical need to not just develop technologically mature electric pumps, but also high efficiency propulsion systems for space craft.

This research, spanning from December 2025 to March 2026, is being conducted to raise the Technology Readiness Level (hereinafter "TRL") of Canned Motor Pump for use on Moon Landers, Large Satellites, Large Orbital Vehicles and Interorbital Transport. The specific focus points are outlined below:

（a）Data Collection from the Pump’s Bearings
Testing specifically focused on the critical task of obtaining special data from the pump’s bearings through the water testing of pump.

（b）Considerations for Pump System
Develop goals for the study of the optimum design not only for the pump, but the system as whole including the motor, inverter and valves etc.

Through this research, EBARA will strive to drive the development of Canned Motor Pumps used in spacecraft and accelerate the TRL of the pumps while creating a technology base that will meet customer requirements. Our company will endeavor to create a prosperous society stated in our Long-Term Corporate Vision "E-Vision2030" and contribute to the development of the Aerospace Industry.
