The recipient of the 3rd IUVSTA EBARA Award has been announced

Dr. Mattia Bartoli of the Italian Institute of Technology & Politecnico di Torino was presented with the IUVSTA EBARA Award (hereinafter, "the Award") at the 23rd International Vacuum Congress (hereinafter, IVC-23), which was held in September by the International Union for Vacuum Science, Technique and Applications (hereinafter, IUVSTA), an organization sponsored by EBARA Corporation (hereinafter, "EBARA").

IUVSTA supports research and development, education, technological development and international conferences in fields related to vacuum and surface science, and hosts the International Vacuum Congress (IVC), the largest international conference on vacuum and surfaces, every three years.

The Award has been presented in conjunction with the IVC since 2019, and this is its third installment.

With the increasing importance of vacuum technology in advanced industries such as semiconductors, this award recognizes an excellent young researcher or engineer to support innovation in environmentally friendly solutions in the area of vacuum-related science and technologies.

The judging process was carried out on applications received from around the world, focusing on two key perspectives: (1) academic achievements, including papers, presentations at academic societies, and curriculum vitae; and (2) how the research results in vacuum science specifically contribute to solutions for environmental issues. Dr. Mattia Bartoli, the recipient of the Award, conducts research on the manufacturing of high-performance catalysts using innovative vacuum technology called Plasma-Enhanced Sputtering to build a multilayer platform essential for chemical hydrogen storage. The reason for his selection is that his research achievement is an extremely critical contribution that directly addresses environmental issues by significantly advancing the efficient storage and utilization of hydrogen energy. In addition to the prize money of 3,000 euros, which was included as a supplementary prize, Dr. Mattia Bartoli also gave a presentation at the IVC-23.

The next congress will be held in Portugal in 2028. EBARA will continue to contribute to the advancement of technology in the vacuum field and support the development of the next generation of researchers and engineers.
