Winner of the Energy Conservation Center Chairman's Award in the Product/Business Model category of the 2024 Energy Conservation Awards

The "Hydrogen-fired absorption chiller-heater 'RHDH' series (hereinafter referred to as "this equipment")," developed by Ebara Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "Ebara") and its group company Ebara Refrigeration Systems, has won the "Energy Conservation Center Chairman's Award" in the product and business model category of the "2024 Energy Conservation Awards" (sponsored by the Energy Conservation Center, a general incorporated foundation).

1. Background and Objectives

The Energy Conservation Awards are a system run by the Energy Conservation Center, Japan to recognize outstanding examples of energy conservation promotion, as well as products and business models with excellent energy conservation features, with the aim of contributing to the dissemination of energy conservation awareness, activities and initiatives, and the promotion of energy-saving products. Reducing greenhouse gases, which are thought to cause global warming, is a global issue, and hydrogen is seen as a next-generation energy source that can help achieve carbon neutrality. The Ebara Group aims to create a hydrogen business unique to the Ebara Group in the hydrogen supply chain's "produce, transport, and use" fields.

2. Overview

Absorption chillers and heaters are refrigeration machines that use heat as their power source, and traditionally have used city gas, kerosene, etc. as fuel. In recent years, the use of hydrogen has been expanding, mainly in the industrial sector, and 2 Based on the idea of "free," the Ebara Group has developed a product that can produce hot and cold water for air conditioning by directly "using" hydrogen as a fuel. By using hydrogen, this device emits 95% less CO annually than kerosene and 94% less CO than city gas. 2 Because it can reduce emissions, the product was recognized as one that will contribute to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
