"Kinugawa Upstream Dam Cooperative Facility Tour" for Elementary School Students

On Tuesday, November 19, EBARA held a site tour of the Kinugawa Upper Dam Collaboration Facility (hereinafter referred to as "this facility") for fourth-year students at Kinugawa Elementary School in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture. This facility is the only unusual facility in the country that adjusts the water volume of the two dams. Usually, we supply water stably to the fields and cities downstream of the dam. In the event of floods and droughts, we protect the town from flood damage by controlling the flow rate.

1. Background and Objectives

EBARA supports the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's "Securing and Promoting the Development of Persons in the Construction Industry," and holds field tours for children. The purpose of this tour is to deepen understanding of dam-related facilities in the area where they live and the people who work there, and to provide a chance for them to directly see large pumps and other equipment that they do not usually see, and to become interested in EBARA's business and construction industry.

2. Overview

This facility connects the Gojuri dam and the Kawaji dam with a tunnel (water guide) in the mountains to adjust the water volume of both dams. Because Isori Dam has a small storage capacity, when water accumulates it can be transferred through a tunnel to Kawaji Dam, which has a larger storage capacity. Conversely, if the water level in Isori Dam is low, water can be sent back from Kawaji Dam. Ebara's pumps are responsible for this water supply. During this tour, elementary school students went down to a pump room about 45 meters below the ground and learned about their role while touching a giant pump. *

3. Future plans

This is the sixth round of this tour. EBARA will continue to value communication with many stakeholders. We will continue to use the spirit, knowledge, and technology we have cultivated through our more than 100 years of business activities to contribute to the development of infrastructure facilities that can solve customers' problems and provide peace of mind.

The EBARA Group aims to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and further enhance its corporate value by addressing key ESG issues based on its long-term vision and medium-term management plan.
