In order to contribute to the realization of a hydrogen-based society, EBARA Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "EBARA") will establish a new commercial product testing and development center for hydrogen infrastructure-related equipment (hereinafter referred to as "this center") in Futtsu City, Chiba Prefecture.
Establishment of the world's first real-scale commercial product testing and development center complete with real-liquid testing facilities for liquid hydrogen pumps
~EBARA will invest a total of about 16 billion yen to support Japan's social infrastructure with technology toward the realization of a hydrogen society~

1. Background
In the global trend toward decarbonization, hydrogen, which does not emit CO2 when burned, is expected to be a trump card in combating global warming. The Ebara Group is working to utilize the technologies and businesses owned by the Group for social implementation of hydrogen-related technology in all fields of “making, humping, and using” hydrogen. We have already launched the world's first liquid hydrogen booster pump and are expanding our sales activities around the world.
2. Overview
This center is a base for product performance testing and elemental technology development using liquid hydrogen (real liquid) in order to reliably implement the social implementation of liquid hydrogen pumps, which are indispensable for the construction of hydrogen supply chains promoted in Japan and other countries around the world. This center is the world's first real-scale commercial product test facility using actual liquid pumps for liquid hydrogen.
Name of Facility | Ebara - Hydrogen Equipment Test and Development Center (E-HYETEC) |
Location | Futtsu City, Chiba Prefecture (own land) |
Site area | Approx. 18,000㎡ |
Building area | Approx. 2,800㎡ |
Amount of investment | Approximately 16.0 billion yen |
Facilities | Liquid hydrogen pump product performance testing equipment, related element technology development equipment, etc. (Indoor closed test facility that is not affected by the weather) |
Commencement of construction | January 2024 |
Completion | June 2026 (planned) *Operation of some test facilities is scheduled to begin in 2025 |
In order for customers to use liquid hydrogen pumps safely and stably, it is essential to confirm the quality of liquid pumps through performance tests using real hydrogen at -253°C. This center enables product performance testing and elemental technology development using hydrogen solutions for commercial products on an actual scale, and contributes to the progress of our hydrogen infrastructure-related business. In addition, we will contribute to the development of hydrogen-related technologies by domestic and overseas companies aiming to build hydrogen supply chains.
3. Future Prospects
With the hydrogen infrastructure-related business as a new pillar, EBARA aims to grow its revenue to 30 billion yen in 2030 and more than 200 billion yen by 2040. The Center will contribute to the construction of a global hydrogen supply chain and contribute to the realization of a hydrogen-based society and the realization of carbon neutrality by 2050.
The EBARA Group aims to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and further enhance its corporate value by addressing key ESG issues based on its long-term vision and medium-term management plan.

As shown in the figure below, liquid hydrogen pumps are an indispensable product for building a hydrogen supply chain. In addition to the following liquid hydrogen pumps, the Center is capable of conducting performance tests and element tests of various hydrogen-related products and materials with actual liquids.
