EBARA Corp. (EBARA) completed the construction work for a large-scale exhaust fan installed in the Tanikawa shaft of the Kanetsu Tunnel, ordered by the Yuzawa Management Office of the Niigata Branch of East Japan Expressway Co., Ltd.

1. Background

The Kanetsu tunnel, which connects the Kanto region and Niigata Prefecture, is the second longest tunnel in the country, extending more than 10 kilometers. This tunnel, which runs through Mt. Tanigawa, is said to have a steep rock wall and complex topography, is a major infrastructure facility that has been active in logistics and human traffic for more than 30 years, supporting industries and livelihoods.

2. Overview

The exhaust fan, one of the tunnel ventilation systems, plays an important role in ensuring an environment in which exhaust gas from passing vehicles can be ventilated and driven safely, and in discharging smoke to the outside in the event of a fire in the tunnel. The maintenance work was carried out at EBARA's Suzuka Plant in Mie Prefecture by transporting major equipment such as large impellers and electric motors for exhaust ventilation from the site. In addition, we inspected casings and other items on site.
