Received Grand Prize Company (Grand Prize) for Corporate Governance of the Year 2023

Ebara Corporation (hereinafter "Ebara") has been awarded the Grand Prize Company (Grand Prize) in the "Corporate Governance of the Year 2023" organized by the Japan Association of Corporate Directors.

Ebara previously received the Special Award – the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award – in 2022, and this marks the first time a company has received both honors.

This award program has been held annually since fiscal year 2015, as part of the government's growth strategy, to support companies that achieve sound, long-term growth through the enhancement of corporate governance.

In receiving this year’s award, Ebara was recognized for the results produced by its governance reforms, shifting from a "defensive" to an "offensive" approach, and for its strong execution capabilities in management.

Comment from Selection Committee Member, Professor Kunio Ito (Emeritus Professor, Hitotsubashi University):

“Triggered by a breakdown in oversight functions, the company promptly embarked on ‘defensive’ governance reform. Early adoption of independent outside directors and transition to a company with a nominating committee, etc., laid the foundation. It later shifted focus to ‘offensive’ governance, introducing ROIC-based management and further evolving into Intellectual Property ROIC and Production ROIC. This process embodies the very essence of ‘Governance to Value.’ Both governance and management serve as a symbolic example of hands-on leadership producing tangible outcomes.”
