Ebara Corporation (hereinafter "Ebara") has completed the installation of one of Japan's largest pump facilities at the Nikko River Estuary Drainage Pumping Station (hereinafter "the Station"), which was constructed as part of the National Owari Western Land Improvement Project (1985-1996).

1. Background and objectives

The Nikko River basin, which flows into Ise Bay, covers an area of approximately 300 km2, and is home to approximately one million people, with agricultural operations centered on rice cultivation. Approximately half of the area is at zero meters above sea level, making natural drainage difficult, so this station was constructed approximately 26 years ago as a key infrastructure facility. In order to ensure that the facility continues to support the stability of agricultural management in the region and to reduce the cost of maintaining and managing the facility, a large-scale overhaul of the 4,600 mm diameter large pump equipment and reducer, which had deteriorated over time, was carried out.

2.3 Overview of the construction work

The newly installed pump facility is one of the largest in Japan, with a capacity to drain 75m3 per second. We disassembled, cleaned, repaired, replaced parts, and carried out various inspections of the affected equipment at Ebara's Futtsu Plant (Chiba Prefecture).
