The 10th EOI Symposium "New video content and the latest visualization technology that will bring innovation to the manufacturing industry" was held

Ebara Corporation (hereinafter referred to as Ebara) invited prominent Japanese professors to hold the 10th Ebara Open Innovation Symposium online on November 8th, entitled "New video content and the latest visualization technology that will bring innovation to the manufacturing industry."

1. Background

Our company's Ebara Open Laboratory (EOL)*1 is running the Ebara Hi-tech University (EHU)*2 to nurture human resources who will support technological advances. EHU has been hosting the Ebara Open Innovation (EOI)*3 Symposium since 2018, positioning it as a "forum for industry-academia collaboration and co-creation that connects academics and business across technical fields."

2. Overview

This time, we focused on efforts to utilize VR (virtual reality), AR (augmented reality), and MR (mixed reality) technologies to create new value. In the future, it is expected that individuals will immerse themselves in the virtual space known as the "metaverse" by wearing avatars, and that economic activity will take shape in a way that is completely different from what has been seen until now through interactions using various VR content. There are also hopes for attempts to visualize the results of psychological state analysis by applying data science.

Professor Kato (Toyo University) and Professor Miyaji (Tokyo City University), who are leading experts in the fields of "psychological visualization" and "VR content," respectively, were invited to this symposium, which was attended by approximately 120 employees. In addition, as examples of Ebara's xR technology initiatives, Ebara business division staff and researchers shared their respective usage situations and application developments, providing a valuable opportunity to discuss how to utilize xR technology in business.

3. Future developments

In its long-term vision, E-Vision 2030, EBARA has set "contributing to the creation of an ever-prosperous life" as a key issue. EBARA's EHU invites researchers from Japan and abroad to give lectures and hold seminars, which will lead to strengthening product competitiveness, improving technological capabilities, and creating new businesses.

By addressing key ESG issues based on its long-term vision and medium-term management plan, the EBARA Group aims to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and further improve its corporate value.
