In December 2022 and January 2023, EBARA conducted an internship for 2024 graduates in a virtual space dedicated to the company.

1. Background

In our long-term vision "E-Vision 2030," we aim to become a corporate group where diverse employees can play an active role with a sense of job satisfaction and comfort. We believe that the inclusion of not only visible differences such as gender and nationality, but also invisible differences such as experience and occupation is essential not only for the growth of the company but also for the growth of each employee. The Diversity Project and Data Strategy Team, which reports directly to the President, introduced and promoted the use of the metaverse in September 2022 as a measure to promote data-driven task diversity (invisible differences in experience, way of thinking, major, work history, etc.) using the metaverse.

2-1 Overview

The internship was held on December 14 and 16, 2022 and January 13, 2023. For the internship, we used our virtual space (aquarium and office room), and all about 50 students who passed the selection process became avatars and conducted group work with discussions and presentations. On the day of the event, despite the fact that it was held in the metaverse environment for the first time, there was a very lively discussion, and it was an opportunity to demonstrate that the metaverse environment has full potential as a means of new ways of working in the future.

Participating students commented, "Unlike the online meeting environment, the avatars brought the participants closer to each other, and I was able to participate with excitement without being nervous," and "I want to work in a way that combines face-to-face and online work with the metaverse." In addition, many commented, "By using avatars, there are no preconceived notions due to visible differences, so it was an environment where it was easy to have a smooth conversation and express opinions." Since communication using avatars can eliminate differences that are visible to people, it is thought that the environment where people can concentrate more on the output of what the other person is saying and make decisions led to the impressions of these participants.

3. Future developments

By promoting Task Diversity using the metaverse, we are promoting the creation of an organization that connects employees with various skills and experiences and accelerates innovation. In the future, we plan to utilize the metaverse in recruitment and recruitment PR activities, utilizing Ebara's proprietary people analytics. Through a business strategy that incorporates the metaverse, we aim to improve the accuracy of management decision-making using digital twins, and use it for faster and more accurate management decisions.

EBARA Group aims to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and further enhance its corporate value by addressing key ESG issues based on its long-term vision and medium-term management plan.
