Received the Special Award/Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award for the first time in the “Corporate Governance of the Year 2022”


Ebara Corporation (hereafter: Ebara) received a special award and Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry's Award at the “Corporate Governance of the Year 2022” hosted by the Japan Association of Directorsopens in a new tab I did it.

As one of the government's growth strategies, this award has been implemented since 2015 for the purpose of supporting companies that have achieved healthy growth over the medium to long term using corporate governance in order to promote the earning power of Japanese companies.

Ebara was evaluated as an enterprise recognized for carrying out advanced initiatives regarding the appointment and succession planning of presidents and CEOs, which are the foundation of governance.

Reason for selection:
① The current president has been elected through an appointment process that includes multiple interviews, etc. over 3 years by the statutory nomination committee. Furthermore, the nomination committee does not have a representative executive president as a member, and consists of a total of 3 members, a non-executive chairman of the board and 2 independent outside directors, and the committee chairman is an independent outside director, so they are thoroughly aware of the separation of execution and supervision, and reports are not only highly transparent, but also express honesty with accountability in corporate governance reports, integrated reports, etc.

② Currently, the nomination committee and the executive side cooperate to implement “human resource development” and “selection of the president” over time, such as formulating and making public a succession plan for the representative executive president, which is a training and selection process spanning 6 years, and they are working on a highly effective successor plan.

③ Excellent information disclosure has been carried out in the past, but the current president also carries out management rooted in human capital and technology while emphasizing profitability from the viewpoint of improving medium- to long-term corporate value, and such management visions are explained in a form linked to non-financial information such as corporate governance and intellectual property, etc., and are transmitted to investors in an easy-to-understand manner.

④ The current president has set a slogan of “supporting the world with technology, enthusiasm,” and is managing with the desire to make people around the world happy through solving social issues based on the spirit of “enthusiasm and sincerity” that has been cultivated since its establishment, with “supporting society, industry, and life,” and these points are consistently reflected in corporate governance efforts.

⑤ Financial performance such as ROE and ROA is on an upward trend, and it has achieved high performance.
