Ebara Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "Ebara") is participating in the "Campaign to Provide Picture Books to Children in Asia" conducted by Shanti International Volunteer Association (hereinafter referred to as "Shanti"), a public interest incorporated association. This year marks our 10th participation, and 100 people from the Ebara Group took part in this initiative.
Carrying out social contribution activities by delivering picture books to children overseas
1. Background
Approximately 770 million people in the world are unable to read or write. EBARA has continued to carry out social contribution activities in which Group employees and their families can participate, with the aim of improving literacy rates and teaching children the joy of reading picture books, particularly in developing countries where conditions are difficult. Through these activities, 1,000 picture books have been delivered to children in various countries around the world.
2-1 Overview
This time, participants attached stickers with Myanmar (Burmese) translations to picture books published in Japan, and donated 100 books. As this is a social contribution activity that can be carried out at home, some employees working from home commented that it was an opportunity to think about the current situation of children around the world.
3. Future developments
The translated picture books were delivered by Shanti to children in Myanmar refugee camps. EBARA will continue to contribute to solving social issues through volunteer activities, with the awareness that not only our business but also our employees and their families are participants in society.
By addressing key ESG issues based on our long-term vision and medium-term management plan, the EBARA Group aims to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and further improve our corporate value.
