Joined the Japan Cellular Agriculture Association

The Next Generation Business Development Promotion Department of Ebara Corporation (hereinafter referred to as Ebara) agrees with the activity policy of the non-profit organization Japan Cellular Agriculture Association and has joined the association.

1. Background

In recent years, new food production methods using cell culture technology have been attracting attention from around the world. As the population continues to grow in the future, there are concerns about food issues such as protein shortages, but it is said that it will be difficult to solve these problems through traditional livestock farming and agriculture alone. In addition, expanding production will lead to environmental issues such as increased greenhouse gas emissions and the depletion of fishery resources, as well as issues in terms of animal welfare.

2-1 Overview

Cellular agriculture is a new production method that can produce exactly the same meat, plants, and other products that are produced using traditional methods by cultivating and multiplying specific cells. Because it produces only the products needed, it can significantly reduce water resources, land and greenhouse gas emissions, and is therefore rapidly developing as a sustainable food production technology around the world.

3. Future developments

Our long-term vision, "E-Vision 2030," sets out our goal of "contributing to the creation of a sustainable society where people do not have to worry about water or food." Through its participation in the association, the Next Generation Business Development Promotion Department will build partnerships with other participating companies and institutions and accelerate the realization of the cellular agriculture business.

EBARA Group aims to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and further enhance its corporate value by addressing key ESG issues based on its long-term vision and medium-term management plan.
