EBARA Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "EBARA") received the Special Award at the 5th Japan SDGs Awards.

1. Background

On December 24, the award ceremony for the 5th Japan SDGs Awards was held. Our company received a special award for "Creation of a water purification and water supply business model for developing countries related to the EBARA Group's goal of 'delivering water to 600 million people.'" The award ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Kishida, who is the head of the SDGs Promotion Headquarters, Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno, who is the deputy head of the SDGs Promotion Headquarters, and Foreign Minister Hayashi.

This award was established at the 3rd SDGs Promotion Headquarters in June 2017 to encourage efforts by companies and organizations to achieve the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) and to promote all-Japan initiatives. The selection process is made by a selection committee comprised of members of the SDGs Promotion Roundtable, which brings together a wide range of stakeholders, including NGOs, NPOs, experts, the private sector, and international organizations.

2. Overview

One of the EBARA Group's materiality issues for realizing its vision for 2030, "Contributing to the creation of a sustainable society," aims to support a sustainable and earth-friendly society, social infrastructure where people can live safely and securely, and a world where people do not have to worry about water and food. The goal is to deliver water to 600 million people.

As one of the concrete initiatives to achieve this goal, we are conducting a project in Kenya to supply safe and clean water to developing countries in collaboration with Ebara Pumps Europe S.p.A., a group company in Italy, and Boreal Light GmbH in Germany. In addition to water supply, it was recognized for creating a model case for the health of people in the community and a sustainable water purification and water supply system.

3. Future developments

Through the further development of this model case, we will continue to create a "system for delivering water" that is suitable for the economy, society, culture, and environment, and contributes to the development of various industries such as agriculture, in Africa and various other regions where clean water has not yet been delivered. We will continue to take on the challenge of creating a system that delivers water, which is indispensable for human survival, without leaving anyone behind.
