JFE Engineering Awarded Pumping Facility Work at Hirokawa Pumping Station in Nagoya, Japan

EBARA Corporation (hereinafter referred to as EBARA) has been awarded the contract for pump equipment work at the Hirokawa Pumping Station, which is ordered by the Japan Sewerage Works Corporation.

1. Background

Since the heavy rains at the end of August 2008 caused floor flooding in a wide area of Nagoya City, facilities such as stormwater conditioning reservoirs that can handle 60 mm/h of rainfall are being developed to reduce flooding damage in areas including the area around Nagoya Station.
EBARA solves a wide range of water and sewerage problems by proposing, designing, procuring, mechanical and equipment works, as well as comprehensive engineering for after-sales services, such as pumping facilities to deliver water for each purpose.

2. Overview

The Hirokawa Pumping Station, which was awarded the contract, will drain rainwater collected from rainwater control ponds and other sources into a canal. Because of the collection of rainwater from a wide area, this facility is characterized as a 'deep depth pumping station' located approximately 65 meters underground. The pump, which will be designed, built and installed by EBARA, has the capability to discharge rainwater from a depth of 50 meters below the ground into the Nakagawa Canal at ground level.
