360° Panoramic VR Tour of the Kinugawa River Upstream Dam Complex

On November 19th, Ebara Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "Ebara") held a 360° panoramic VR tour (hereinafter referred to as "this tour") of the Kinugawa Upstream Dam Group Linked Facility (hereinafter referred to as "this facility") for fourth and fifth graders at Kinugawa Elementary School in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture.

1. Background and Objectives

Ebara supports the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's initiative to "secure and develop the next generation of construction industry workers" and hosts construction site tours for children. The purpose of this tour is to help people deepen their understanding of the dam-related facilities in their local areas and the people who work there, and to help secure workers in the construction industry by explaining Ebara's business.

2-1 Overview

This facility is the only one of its kind in Japan, connecting the Isori Dam and Kawaji Dam via a tunnel (water conveyance) in the mountains and regulating the water volume of both dams. When the water level at Isori Dam, which has a small storage capacity, increases, the water is sent through a tunnel to Kawaji Dam, which has a larger storage capacity. In addition, if the water level in Isori Dam is low, water can be sent back from Kawaji Dam. By adjusting the water volume of both dams, this facility provides a stable supply of water to the fields and cities downstream of the dams, and also protects the town from flooding by managing the flow rate during floods and droughts. Ebara pumps are responsible for this water supply adjustment.
