Muroran Institute of Technology and Interstellar Technologies jointly develop turbopumps for satellite launch vehicles

EBARA Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "EBARA") has started joint development of a turbopump for a microsatellite launch vehicle with Muroran Institute of Technology (hereinafter referred to as "Muroran Institute of Technology") and Interstellar Technologies Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "IST").

1. Background

On August 1, we launched the CP Hydrogen-Related Business Project as a corporate project under the direct control of the President. One of the main themes of the project is the field of aerospace technology. With the development of an advanced information society, the demand for satellite rockets is increasing. We have a track record of collaborating with external organizations to provide technical support for turbopumps for rockets.
In addition, business ideas in the aerospace technology field were proposed by the winning team in our internal new business idea competition, E-Start 2020, which was held in 2020. Subsequently, discussions were held for commercialization, and it was decided to realize it as a CP hydrogen-related business project.

2-1 Overview

The Aerospace Vehicle Systems Research Center of Muroran Institute of Technology has established the Space Project Co-Creation Laboratory, a base for promoting rocket development through industry-academia collaboration. In September of this year, we dispatched two engineers to the laboratory to jointly develop a turbopump for the ZERO microsatellite launch vehicle under development by IST. ZERO is aiming for a launch in FY2023.

3. Future developments

MOL will use this joint development of turbopumps as a stepping stone to enter the aerospace technology field, and will further advance product development in the space transportation infrastructure business in the future. We will contribute to the "creation of an evolving and affluent lifestyle" set forth in our long-term vision "E-Vision 2030."
