Regional Fish and Kyoto University receive the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award

Ebara Corporation (hereinafter referred to as Ebara) received the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award together with Regional Fish Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as RF) and Kyoto University at the University-Based Venture Awards sponsored by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO).

1. Background

We had been considering collaborating with RF since before it was founded, and in 2020 we were the first to enter into a capital and business alliance with the company. RF aims to build a recirculating land-based aquaculture system that can efficiently raise fish by using its genome editing technology, which allows for ultra-high speed breeding. We are providing our fluid and thermal control technologies and conducting joint research in Kyoto.

2-1 Overview

The purpose of this award is to promote the establishment of university-based ventures that utilize the results of research and development at universities, the challenging efforts that these ventures undertake after they have been established, and support from universities, companies, etc. This is a system that recognizes outstanding university-based ventures that are expected to have future success, as well as the universities and companies that have contributed to their growth. Aiming to bring about change to Japan's fishing industry, the company was recognized along with RF and Kyoto University as a field that is expected to create and grow new markets in the future.

3. Future developments

Based on the concept of "giving the sea a rest," our company aims to build a land-based aquaculture system that can steadily supply delicious fish with a low environmental impact. We will work to resolve the important issues set out in our long-term vision, "E-Vision 2030," and contribute to the realization of a sustainable "world without water or food shortages."

By addressing important ESG issues based on our long-term vision and medium-term management plan, the EBARA Group aims to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and further increase our corporate value.
