Since 2020, EBARA Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "EBARA") has been participating in the "Science Castle Research Grant-in-Aid," a research grant program for junior and senior high school students held by Leave a Nest Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Leave a Nest"). This year, we have established the EBARA Prize*1 and selected four schools to support our research.
Research Grant Program Science Castle Research Grants-in-Aid 2022 "EBARA Award" Selected Schools - Supporting Researchers Who Will Lead the Future -

1. Background and Objectives
The purpose of this grant program is to provide an opportunity for students to take a step toward becoming "future researchers who will play an active role in society" through research. This award is conducted in the hope that junior high and high school students who need knowledge, experience, and money for the research they want to engage in will start their research as an opportunity to become researchers who "support the world with technology, passion, and technology," which is EBARA's mission. The products and technologies provided by the five businesses developed by EBARA are deeply related to various fluids, such as water, air, heat, and gas. For this reason, the EBARA Prize is a grant program that supports ideas that imagine a new future through research on "flow."
2. Overview
Regarding the keyword "flow" this year, we received 14 applications, including research that solves social issues and research that pursues themes that we have set ourselves. After a careful selection of application documents and online interviews, the following four proposals were selected.
■List of selected universities and research themes
Selected Schools | Research Themes |
Tokyo Metropolitan Tama High School of Science and Technology | Effects of shoreline features on microplastic flow and deposition |
Nishiwaki High School | What is the most efficient ventilation method in a regular classroom? ~Quantification by changes in carbon dioxide concentration, temperature, and smoke movement~ |
Okayama Prefectural Tamano High School | Development of a power generation device using thermoacoustic devices in a high school laboratory |
Okayama Prefectural Tamano High School | Development of wind tunnel equipment to measure the turbulence caused by model rockets and fins and the air resistance received by model rockets |
3. Future developments
In addition to providing research funding to the four selected universities, one researcher each from EBARA and one staff member from Leave a Nest will act as advisors to support the researchers and promote research activities together. Each school plans to present its results at the Science Castle Kanto Conference in December and at our internal research report meeting. ※2
