In June 2020, EBARA Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "EBARA") held the final screening of the new business idea competition "E-Start 2020" through an internal public offering. In consideration of the prevention of infection with the new coronavirus, the final screening was held online. In the second week of July, an award ceremony was held at the Haneda headquarters, and trophies were presented to the winners.

1. Background and Objectives
Since our start in 1912 as a university-launched venture and the commercialization of the first domestically produced pump, we have responded to and contributed to new social issues along with the changing times.
The new business idea competition "E-Start 2020" was held as a new initiative to return to the spirit of the company's founding, "enthusiasm and sincerity," to promote the development of a "corporate culture of competition and challenge" through one's own ingenuity and ingenuity, and to realize the creation of new businesses.
2.Outline of E-Start 2020
"E-Start 2020" was planned by the Next Generation Business Development Promotion Department of the Marketing Management Department, and new business ideas were solicited through an internal public call. Out of a total of 120 applications, nine advanced to the final screening, and a total of nine judges, including President and Representative Executive Officer Masao Asami, Outside Director Hajime Sawabe, Leave a Nest Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Leave a Nest Co., Ltd."), Representative Director Yukihiro Maru, and the presidents of each company, served as judges. At the final judging meeting, the Grand Prize, the Excellence Award (2), the Special Jury Prize, and the Leave a Nest Award were selected based on the results of employee voting, after rigorously judging 1) novelty and innovation, 2) consistency with the Company's long-term vision "E-Vision 2030," 3) compatibility with the Company's technologies and other management resources, and 4) enthusiasm of the applicants.
The ideas presented were based on EBARA's technological capabilities, and a wide range of proposals were made, ranging from business ideas related to the company's mainstay pump business to new business areas.
Mr. Maru of Leave a Nest Company, who served as a judge, said, "There is no profitable business from the beginning. Passion and the willingness to not give up are important," Mr. Sawabe commented, "In order to succeed in business, you must have a strong desire to make people happy, change the world, and make things better," and finally, President Asami said, "I was happy that the DNA of Ebara's university-launched venture has taken root in our employees. Let's do something new for a sustainable society."
3. Future development of the Company
In its long-term vision "E-Vision 2030," EBARA aims to continue to contribute to a sustainable society by grasping the needs of society globally from a market-in perspective, developing new businesses that utilize our technologies, and providing solutions.
The new business ideas that won the Grand Prize and other prizes will be examined in detail for commercialization in the future. Under the slogan of "Supporting the world with technology," we will continue to contribute to solving social issues by leveraging our technological capabilities and human resources.
