EBARA Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "EBARA") was selected and commended by the Director-General of the Kanto Regional Development Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism as an "Excellent Construction and Excellent Construction Engineer in the First Year of Reiwa". This work was evaluated for the "H29 Outer Spillway Residual Water Drainage Pump Facility Improvement Work" at the Showa Drainage Station located in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area Outer Spillway located in Saitama Prefecture.
Selected and commended by the Director of the Kanto Regional Development Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism as an "Excellent Construction and Excellent Construction Engineer in the First Year of Reiwa"

1. Background
The Tokyo Metropolitan Area Outer Spillway is one of the world's largest*1 underground spillways located in Kasukabe City, Saitama Prefecture. Compared to other regions, this area has a lower land and more prone to water accumulation, and because there are several small and medium-sized rivers, flood damage during heavy rains has been seen more often since the period of high economic growth, when development progressed. The Metropolitan Area Outer Spillway is a facility that plays a role in reducing flood damage by draining a portion of the rainwater that has risen in small and medium-sized rivers into the Edo River through a 6.3-kilometer-long underground spillway using a large pump installed at the Showa Drainage Station. EBARA solves the problems faced by water infrastructure through comprehensive engineering of proposals, design, procurement, machinery and equipment construction, and after-sales service of pumping equipment.
2. Overview
This award was given in recognition of the excellent construction results in the production and installation of a diesel generator for the residual water drainage pump of the third standoff, which flows water from the river into the underground spillway. In this work, the operation of the residual water drainage pump was changed from a gas turbine drive generator to a diesel engine drive, thereby reducing maintenance costs. In addition, the engineers who completed the construction safely within the period were also highly evaluated as "excellent contractors".

3. Future developments
EBARA aims to contribute to the creation of a sustainable society by supporting "an earth-friendly society, social infrastructure where people can live safely and securely, and a world where there is no need for water or food." In EBARA's social systems business, we will support the resilience of social infrastructure through the development of pumps with improved drainage capacity and the provision of easy-to-maintain equipment and services.
The EBARA Group aims to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and further enhance its corporate value by addressing key ESG issues based on its long-term vision and medium-term management plan.
