Ebara Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "Ebara") has cooperated with IUVSTA (International Union for Vacuum Science, Technique, and Applications) to establish the new IUVSTA-Ebara Award (hereinafter referred to as "Award"). The first award ceremony was held at IVC-21 (International Vacuum Conference) held in Malmö, Sweden from July 1st to 5th.

1. Background and Objectives

This award recognizes young researchers who have conducted research and technological development in the field of vacuum that contributes to improving the environment and reducing the environmental impact. Thanks to the generous cooperation of IUVSTA members, we were able to establish a new award in conjunction with IVC-21. IUVSTA and EBARA will hold the awards in conjunction with the IVC, which is held every three years, to continue to support young engineers who are promoting research and technological development in the vacuum field.

2. Awards Overview

  • Reason for receiving the award: Dr. Waqas Hassan Tanveer
    Heriot-Watt University (UK)
    Institute of Mechanical, Process and Energy Engineering IMPEE
  • Reason for receiving the award: Dr. Waqas Hassan Tanveer is engaged in research on alternative aviation fuels. Through his research, he has gained a wealth of experience in a wide range of fields, including vacuum technology, thin films, and nanomaterials, and has made significant contributions to the award's aims of renewable energy and environmental issues, making him a worthy recipient of this award.

3. Future developments

For over 100 years since its founding, EBARA has been engaged in business that contributes to the fields of water, air, and the environment. Technologies that improve the environment and reduce the burden on the environment are in EBARA's DNA. EBARA will continue to not only provide pumps and other products and services, but also contribute to the training of the next generation of engineers. The next award ceremony will be held at IVC-22 in Sapporo in 2022.

4. References

IUVSTA is an alliance organization that promotes international cooperation in the fields of vacuum science and technology. Vacuum and surface-related societies from 30 countries around the world participate, and the Japan Society of Vacuum and Surface Science (a public interest incorporated association) is a member from Japan.
