Tohoku Chuo Expressway / Ventilation System Delivered for Kuriko Tunnel

2018.05.18
EBARA CORPORATION

EBARA Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "EBARA") has delivered a ventilation system to the Kuriko Tunnel on the Tohoku Chuo Expressway. The ventilation system delivered this time consists of two exhaust fans (3350 mm in diameter) and 26 jet fans (13 each at the Fukushima side and Yamagata side entrances of the tunnel).
The newly opened Kuriko Tunnel, which spans both Fukushima and Yamagata prefectures, is the longest automobile road tunnel in the Tohoku region at approximately 9 km. The Kuriko Pass has a lot of snowfall, steep inclines, and sharp curves, causing many large vehicles and other vehicles to get stuck during the winter. The opening of this tunnel will ensure safe and secure passage.

The ventilation system delivered this time is intended to maintain the air environment in the tunnel and to secure the evacuation environment in the event of a tunnel fire. A feature of this ventilation system is that it is equipped with predictive arithmetic control, which minimizes running costs by operating the ventilation system based on traffic volume from traffic volume measurement equipment.

EBARA will continue to contribute to infrastructure development around the world based on its extensive track record and trust.
