Pump seminar held in Thailand

Ebara Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "Ebara") held a pump seminar in Bangkok, Thailand from August 24th to August 31st, 2017. This seminar is the 26th one co-hosted with the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). The seminar was attended by 52 people, mainly engineers, from eight countries: Thailand, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, Nepal, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka.

The seminar focused on pump technology for water facilities, and included lectures on how to determine the specifications of intake pumps at water purification plants, measures to prevent water hammer, and energy-saving operation of pumps, as well as tours of water purification plants and drainage pumping stations. A Nepalese engineer who was participating for the first time said that the lecture on water hammer countermeasures was extremely useful. In Nepal, where the altitude is high, pumps with a high total head are required for water distribution, and it is generally said that pumps with a high total head are more likely to cause the water hammer phenomenon * because the pressure fluctuations in the pipes are large.

EBARA has deepened mutual understanding with countries around the world through international cooperation such as technical guidance. Since the establishment of the EBARA Hatakeyama Seiji Memorial Fund in 1989, more than 250 seminars have been held around the world, with a total of more than 12,000 participants. A total of five seminars are planned for fiscal 2017.

EBARA will continue to contribute to the development of countries in Southeast Asia and South America through international cooperation activities such as technical seminars, in addition to providing pumps and other products and services.

* Water hammer phenomenon: When the speed of the water flowing through the pipes changes suddenly, such as when a pump is started or stopped (especially when it stops suddenly due to a power outage), or when a valve is opened or closed, a drastic change in water pressure occurs. This phenomenon is called water hammer. When the water hammer phenomenon occurs, pipes, valves, etc. can be damaged.
