Our group company, Ebara Environmental Plant Co., Ltd. (President and CEO: Ichihara Akira, Head Office: Ota-ku, Tokyo), received the Good Design Award 2017 for the Musashino Clean Center (Musashino City, Tokyo), which was delivered in March 2017 and began operation in April of the same year.

The design of the Musashino Clean Center aims to open it to the local community as a facility for realizing a low-carbon society through discussions involving citizens, and to contribute to the development of the surrounding town. The award was given in recognition of the facility's efforts to make the normally closed factory interior visible, provide a freely accessible tour route, and create an open space for events, making it a place where citizens can come face to face with the issue of waste.

The Good Design Award for Musashino Clean Center was shared with Ebara Environmental Plant, Musashino City (Tokyo), Mizutani Toshihiro Architects (Tokyo), and Kajima Corporation (Tokyo).

[Judges' evaluation]

Though waste incineration facilities are necessary for all people living in modern times, they tend to be a nuisance to local communities due to their intended use. In fact, the old facility was designed to be hidden by being surrounded by greenery. This time, the walls have been removed to create an open facility connected to the surrounding plaza. There is also a viewing route inside the building where visitors can experience the waste processing process through a huge glass panel. The facility was recognized for being a place where citizens can face up to the waste problem without turning a blind eye to it.

The Ebara Group will continue to build facilities that are loved by local residents through the construction, operation, maintenance, and management of waste treatment facilities.
