Regarding non-compliant construction of drainage pipes at fire compartment penetration points in apartment buildings

Dear Customers

We would like to express our sincere gratitude for your continued patronage.

We have recently discovered that in a pipe renewal project carried out by our company and group companies to replace aging existing drainage pipes in apartment buildings with new ones, the piping that penetrates the fire compartment may have been installed to specifications different from those stipulated in the Building Standards Act, and have reported this to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
As a result of an investigation by a specific administrative agency, non-compliance was found in two properties in the pipe renewal project carried out in Tokyo and Miyagi Prefecture. We have also reported to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism that there are 31 other construction projects suspected of having similar non-compliance to the construction project found to be non-compliant this time. Going forward, under the guidance of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and specific administrative agencies, we will implement remedial measures if non-compliance is confirmed as a result of compliance investigations with the specifications set out in the Building Standards Act.
We will contact affected customers and proceed with the response.
In addition, we plan to have non-compliant construction work tested by a third-party performance evaluation agency to verify its safety.

We deeply apologize for the great inconvenience and concern caused to our customers and many other people.
