Shinkawa-kako Drainage Pump Station

Renewal project based on existing facilities

Machinery Field Overview

Location: Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture

Total discharge volume: 240 m3/s

6 units of φ4200mm moving vane horizontal axial flow tubular pumps

One of the largest horizontal axial pumps in Japan Delivered

Issues and solutions

The Nishikanbara Plain, located in the center of the Niigata Plain, has a total area of approximately 36,000 ha and is one of the largest granary areas in Japan. Because this area is a swampy lowland, it was at constant risk of overflow due to poor drainage and flooding. Therefore, the Shinkawa River Mouth Drainage Pump Station was constructed to lower the river water level of the Shinkawa River for the purpose of improving drainage of the subsiding farmland and ensuring stable agricultural production and management.

Features

Highly difficult construction work performed

While ensuring the drainage function of the pumping station, the renewal work for all six pumps was carried out from October to May, when the river is not flooded, by removing one pump at a time and installing a new pump. The new pumps were installed.

Improved functionality

EBARA's proprietary flow analysis technology has improved efficiency on the high flow side from the design flow (the amount of water expected to flow in).

Impeller

4.2-meter diameter impeller drains water at 240 m3/s.

Pump casing

The impeller is housed in a casing and drains a large volume of water.
