EBARA is producing cryogenic pumps at its two production bases — the FUJISAWA Plant, and EBARA INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION, an affiliated company in the US. This year, the total number of cryogenic production bases has exceeded 5,000 units, which is the best delivery record in the world.
A cryogenic pump is a submersible motor pump used in cryogenic temperatures to transfer liquids such as LNG (liquefied natural gas at -162ºC) and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas at -42ºC).
Demand for LNG which has attracted attention as a clean energy because it emits less carbon dioxide during burning than coal and oil is forecasted to increase in future. Since it is difficult to transport LNG by sea or store it in tanks in a gaseous form with a large volume, natural gas is cooled to a cryogenic temperature of -162ºC or lower and liquefied, reducing it to 1/600 of its gaseous volume.
LNG has features like a cryogenic temperature and low viscosity, and thus advanced techniques are required to handle it. High technical capabilities and reliability are needed to handle cryogenic pumps used in this specific environment.
To cope with the great increase in demand for LNG in recent years, EBARA has built one of the world largest cryogenic pump test facilities capable of testing pumps in LNG/LPG with the latest equipment in the SODEGAURA Plant, in addition to enhancing the test facilities in the US. We started operating this facility in 2006. They allow us to perform functional tests such as a NPSH* test and vibration measurement test, simultaneously with the performance test conforming to ISO9906. In this way, we can produce highly accurate test results. Because LNG and LPG are inflammable gases, we not only take sufficient safety measures, such as ensuring there are no sources of fire, preventing leaks and quickly detecting leaks if leakage were to occur, but we also take care of the environment by suppressing the emissions of boil-off gas that is vaporized during testing.
EBARA continues to provide high-quality cryogenic pumps.
